Device Story

NeoPEX™ Pre-Mixed Obturation Paste is a non-sterile, hydraulic calcium silicate-based material; supplied in prefilled syringe with disposable tips for direct clinical placement by dental professionals. Material hardens upon moisture exposure to form calcium silicate cement; creates highly alkaline environment; releases calcium ions. Radiopaque for radiographic visualization. Used for root canal obturation, pulpotomy, pulp capping, and repair of root defects. Clinical benefit derived from sealing root canal systems and promoting healing in endodontic procedures.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance evaluated per ISO 6876 for flow, setting time, radiopacity, pH, and calcium ion release. Biocompatibility assessed per ISO 10993-1. No clinical studies were required.

Technological Characteristics

Premixed hydraulic calcium silicate paste. Composition: Tricalcium Silicate, Dicalcium Silicate, Calcium Hydroxide, Tantalum Pentoxide, organic fluids, and thickener. You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading. If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to additional controls. Results for Flow, Setting, radiopacity, pH on setting, and calcium ion release for the subject device were equivalent or very similar to predicate devices. Biocompatibility was demonstrated in accordance with the FDA guidance, Use of International Standard ISO 10993-1, "Biological evaluation of medical devices - Part 1: Evaluation and testing within a risk management process". No clinical studies were required to support substantial equivalence. ## Conclusion The results of the nonclinical testing demonstrate that NeoPEX™ Pre-Mixed Obturation Paste performs as intended and has the same intended use and similar technological characteristics as the identified predicate and reference devices. Based on the information provided, NeoPEX™ Pre-Mixed Obturation Paste is substantially equivalent to the identified predicate devices. Any differences between the subject device and the predicate and reference devices do not raise different questions regarding safety or effectiveness.
