Indications for Use

The Extremity Medical Calcaneal Osteotomy Device is intended for fixation of osteotomies of the calcaneus.

Device Story

Bone fixation device for calcaneal osteotomies; consists of bracket and lag screws; includes surgical instruments for site preparation and delivery. Bracket available in 6mm to 13mm heights; modified design accommodates 3 lag screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical/surgical settings to stabilize bone segments post-osteotomy. Provides mechanical fixation to facilitate bone healing.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical testing was performed. Equivalence established via non-clinical bench testing, including pull-out, torque, and bending strength assessments of worst-case constructs.

Technological Characteristics

Metallic bone fixation fastener (bracket and lag screws). Materials and mechanical properties are equivalent to the predicate. Dimensions: bracket heights 6mm to 13mm. Design allows for 3-screw fixation.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring fixation of calcaneal osteotomies.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
