Indications for Use

The intended use of this panel is for determining quantitative and/or qualitative antimicrobial agent susceptibility of colonies grown on solid media of Haemophilus spp. After incubation in a non-CO2 incubator for 20 - 24 hours, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for the test organism is determined by observing the lowest antimicrobial concentration showing inhibition of growth. The two-fold dilutions of AMPICILLIN in the panel range from 0.015 to 16 mcg/ml for testing Haemophilus spp.

Device Story

MicroScan MICroSTREP plus Panel is an in vitro diagnostic device used in clinical laboratories to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Ampicillin for Haemophilus spp. isolates. The device consists of panels containing two-fold dilutions of the antimicrobial agent (0.015 to 16 mcg/ml). Clinical laboratory personnel inoculate the panel with bacterial colonies grown on solid media and incubate in a non-CO2 incubator for 20-24 hours. The MIC is determined by observing the lowest concentration of Ampicillin that inhibits bacterial growth. This quantitative result assists clinicians in selecting appropriate antibiotic therapy for patients with Haemophilus infections.

Clinical Evidence

External evaluation conducted using fresh and stock clinical isolates and stock challenge strains of Haemophilus spp. Performance compared against NCCLS frozen reference panels. Results demonstrated an overall Essential Agreement of 91.5%. Reproducibility and quality control testing yielded acceptable results.
