Indications for Use

Device Story

The HEMOCHRON® Electronic System Verification Tube (ESVT) is a plastic tube containing battery-operated electronic circuitry used for quality control of HEMOCHRON® coagulation instruments. It simulates test initiation and clot detection at 100, 300, and 500-second intervals. The device is inserted into the instrument's test well; the instrument measures the simulated clotting time, which is then compared against the ESVT's known values to verify the functionality of the test well and detector. This process ensures the instrument's timing capability and well rotation are operating correctly. It is used in clinical settings by healthcare personnel to perform routine quality control checks, ensuring the accuracy of patient coagulation assays.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Precision was validated using three different operators on HEMOCHRON® models 401, 801, 8000, and Response over a minimum of three days. Results for 120 samples per level: Normal (90-110s) mean 97.56s (CV 2.74%); Abnormal I (290-310s) mean 297.3s (CV 1.02%); Abnormal II (490-510s) mean 497.6s (CV 0.63%).

The upgrade provides the end user with additional quality features to assure the HEMOCHRON® instrument is operating properly. The ESVT is designed to check the timing capability of the HEMOCHRON instrument, as well as, verifying well rotation. You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act.
