Indications for Use

The intended use of this device is to help provide dose uniformity for electron beam profile.

Device Story

The Electron Wedge is a radiation beam-shaping block used in conjunction with class II linear accelerators. It functions as a physical accessory to modify the electron beam profile, ensuring dose uniformity during radiation therapy. The device is intended for use in clinical radiation oncology settings by trained medical physicists or radiation therapists. By shaping the beam, it assists in delivering a more uniform radiation dose to the target tissue, potentially improving treatment accuracy and patient outcomes. It is a passive mechanical device that does not involve electronic processing or software.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only; no clinical data provided.

Technological Characteristics

Passive radiation beam-shaping block. Designed for attachment to class II linear accelerators. Mechanical construction; no electronic components, software, or energy source.

Indications for Use

Indicated for use as a radiation beam-shaping block to provide dose uniformity for electron beam profiles in patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A radiation therapy beam-shaping block is a device made of a highly attenuating material (such as lead) intended for medical purposes to modify the shape of a beam from a radiation therapy source.
