Indications for Use

The Synthes Spine Anterior Thoracolumbar Rod Clamp (ATRC) System consists of a rod, a choice of three clamps, one bone screw and one set screw. Degenerative Disc Disease is defined as back pain of a discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies. correction of anterolateral lordotic deformities for the spine, lumbar scoliosis and pseudoarthrosis of the thoracolumbar spine. This system is intended for anterolateral intervertebral body screw fixation/attachment to the T8 - L5 spine.

Device Story

The ATRC system is a spinal stabilization construct consisting of rods, clamps, bone screws, and set screws. It is designed for anterolateral intervertebral body fixation. During surgery, rods are inserted into clamps and locked with set screws; the construct is then attached to vertebral bodies using self-tapping unicortical screws. The device is used by surgeons in clinical settings to stabilize the spine following decompression, fusion, or deformity correction. Indications for Use

Contraindicated for pedicular screw fixation/attachment.

A spinal intervertebral body fixation orthosis is a device intended to be implanted made of titanium. It consists of various vertebral plates that are punched into each of a series of vertebral bodies. An eye-type screw is inserted in a hole in the center of each of the plates. A braided cable is threaded through each eye-type screw. The cable is tightened with a tension device and it is fastened or crimped at each eye-type screw. The device is used to apply force to a series of vertebrae to correct “sway back,” scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine), or other conditions.

The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Note that labeling or otherwise promoting this device system for pedicular screw fixation/attachment would cause the device system to be adulterated under 501(f) (1) of the Act.
