Indications for Use

The Rüsch Blakemore Tube - 4 Lumen (Minnesota Type), sterile is a single use, sterile, naso-gastric double balloon tube that can be passed nasally or orally into the stomach suitable for use in the management of bleeding esophageal varices.

Device Story

The Rüsch Blakemore Tube is a single-use, sterile, naso-gastric double-balloon device used for the management of bleeding esophageal varices. It consists of a radiopaque (BaSO2) soft red rubber tube with two SILKOLATEX™ cuffs inflated via Luer syringes; pilot balloons indicate cuff inflation. A fourth lumen allows for suctioning saliva from above the esophageal cuff. The device is passed nasally or orally into the stomach by a clinician. By inflating the balloons, the device provides tamponade to bleeding varices. The additional lumen improves patient comfort and safety by preventing aspiration of saliva. It is intended for clinical use in hospital settings.
