Indications for Use

The IMMAGE Immunochemistry System Kappa (KAP) Reagent, when used in conjunction with Beckman IMMAGE™ Immunochemistry Systems and Beckman Calibrator 1, is intended for the quantitative determination of kappa light chains (free and bound) by rate nephelometry. The IMMAGE Immunochemistry System Lambda (LAM) Reagent, when used in conjunction with Beckman IMMAGE™ Immunochemistry Systems and Beckman Calibrator 1, is intended for the quantitative determination of lambda light chains (free and bound) by rate nephelometry.

Device Story

IMMAGE Immunochemistry System reagents utilize rate nephelometry to measure kappa and lambda light chain concentrations in human serum and urine. System uses goat-derived antibodies to bind light chains; antigen excess testing solution is integrated into the reagent cartridge to automate detection of high-concentration samples. Operated by laboratory personnel on the IMMAGE Immunochemistry System. Output is a quantitative concentration value used by clinicians to assess light chain levels. Benefits include automated processing and improved workflow compared to manual antigen excess testing.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Method comparison studies performed against predicate Beckman reagents across serum (n=220 for KAP, n=236 for LAM) and urine (n=103 for KAP, n=40 for LAM) samples showed high correlation (r=0.954 to 0.991). Within-run imprecision studies (n=30 to 80 per level) demonstrated %C.V. values ranging from 1.2% to 3.0%. Stability testing confirmed 24-month shelf-life and 14-day open container/calibration stability.

Technological Characteristics

Rate nephelometry; goat-derived antibodies; integrated antigen excess testing solution; reagent cartridge form factor. Quantitative determination of free and bound light chains.

Indications for Use

Indicated for the quantitative determination of kappa and lambda light chain concentrations in human serum and urine samples.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An immunoglobulin (light chain specific) immunological test system is a device that consists of the reagents used to measure by immunochemical techniques both kappa and lambda types of light chain portions of immunoglobulin molecules in serum, other body fluids, and tissues. In some disease states, an excess of light chains are produced by the antibody-forming cells. These free light chains, unassociated with gamma globulin molecules, can be found in a patient's body fluids and tissues. Measurement of the various amounts of the different types of light chains aids in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma (cancer of antibody-forming cells), lymphocytic neoplasms (cancer of lymphoid tissue), Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia (increased production of large immunoglobulins), and connective tissue diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
