Indications for Use

NAS&P Hydrogel is intended to be used in the management of: 1. Partial thickness draining and non-draining wounds (minor cuts, scrapes, donor sites, etc.) 2. Stage I thru IV chronic wounds such as pressure sores.

Device Story

Hydrogel Skin Dressing consists of crosslinked polyethylene oxide hydrogel (96% water) supported by a polyethylene net and enclosed between two polyethylene film layers. Device provides a moist wound environment and cooling effect due to high water content/specific heat; absorbs at least twice its weight in water. Used in clinical settings for wound management; applied by healthcare professionals. Output is a physical dressing providing moisture and cooling to the wound site; aids in pain/itching relief. Does not accelerate healing or epithelization; not for long-term/permanent use or as artificial skin.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Crosslinked polyethylene oxide hydrogel (96% water, 4% polymer); low-density polyethylene net support; low-density polyethylene film backing. Hydrophilic; high specific heat for cooling. Dimensions/form factor not specified. Sterilization method not specified.

Indications for Use

Indicated for management of partial thickness draining/non-draining wounds (minor cuts, scrapes, donor sites) and Stage I-IV chronic wounds (pressure sores). Not for third-degree burns.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hydrogel wound dressing is a sterile or non-sterile device intended to cover a wound, to absorb wound exudate, to control bleeding or fluid loss, and to protect against abrasion, friction, desiccation, and contamination. It consists of a nonresorbable matrix made of hydrophilic polymers or other material in combination with water (at least 50 percent) and capable of absorbing exudate. This classification does not include a hydrogel wound dressing that contains added drugs such as antimicrobial agents, added biologics such as growth factors, or is composed of materials derived from animal sources.

It is centered by a low density high open area polyethylene net which gives it strength, but does not interfere with transmission of fluids and vapors. It is backed on both sides with an inert low density polyethylene film which controls water vapor transmission during storage and makes the product easy to handle. NAS&P Hydrogel is intended to be used in the management of: 1. Partial thickness draining and non-draining wounds (minor cuts, scrapes, donor sites, etc.) 2. Stage I thru IV chronic wounds such as pressure sores. This hydrogel retains cold temperature. Its high specific heat due to its high water content, allows it to have a cooling effect which may be helpful in relieving pain and itching. It is hydrophilic and will absorb at least 2 times its own weight again in water.
