Indications for Use

The KARL STORZ SUPRALOOP is a monopolar electrosurgical device intended for cutting and removal of soft tissue in gynecological procedures involving endoscopic hysterectomy in adult women. It is used with standard electrosurgical generators

Device Story

Modular monopolar electrosurgical system for laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy; consists of reusable handle, reusable 5 mm outer sheath, and sterile single-use monopolar loop electrode. Physician operates handle to advance/retract loop through sheath, opening/closing loop around target tissue. System connects to standard electrosurgical generator; HF energy activates loop to circumferentially cut and coagulate tissue; current returns via separate patient return electrode. Device used in clinical/OR settings. Benefits include mechanical tissue removal and coagulation during endoscopic procedures.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by bench verification testing, including electrode attachment/detachment force, system interlocking, bending force, HF tissue/durability testing, compression, and tensile strength. Biocompatibility, sterility, and electrical safety/EMC testing met all predefined acceptance criteria.

Technological Characteristics

Modular system; reusable handle/sheath, single-use loop. Materials: NiTi, PTFE, stainless steel 1.4305, PPSU, ZrO2, PFA, silicone. Energy: Monopolar HF. Standards: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-2, IEC 60601-1-2, ISO 10993-1, ISO 11135:2014, ISO 11607-1:2019, ASTM F88/F88M-15. Sterilization: Steam (reusable components), EtO (single-use loops).

Indications for Use

Indicated for cutting and removal of soft tissue in endoscopic hysterectomy procedures in adult women.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A unipolar endoscopic coagulator-cutter is a device designed to destroy tissue with high temperatures by directing a high frequency electrical current through the tissue between an energized probe and a grounding plate. It is used in female sterilization and in other operative procedures under endoscopic observation. This generic type of device may include the following accessories: an electrical generator, probes and electrical cables, and a patient grounding plate. This generic type of device does not include devices used to perform female sterilization under hysteroscopic observation.

The system consists of a reusable handle (26183MA), a reusable 5 mm outer sheath with a 300 mm working length (26183MB), and a sterile, single-use monopolar loop electrode. Two loop sizes are available: 120 mm x 85 mm (26183MC-S) and 200 mm x 150 mm (26183MD-S). The patient-contacting materials of the loop include nickel-titanium alloy (NiTi), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), stainless steel 1.4305, and black PTFE. The patient-contacting materials of the outer sheath include black polyphenylsulfone (PPSU), zirconium oxide (ZrO2), black perfluoroalkoxy alkane (PFA), and gray silicone The loop electrode is connected through the reusable handle and sheath to a commonly available electrosurgical generator with a monopolar output. When HF energy is activated, current is conducted through the loop electrode to circumferentially cut and coagulate tissue, with current returning through a separate patient return electrode. The handle advances and retracts the loop through the sheath to open and close the loop around the target tissue. | | Indications For Use: | The KARL STORZ SUPRALOOP is a monopolar electrosurgical device intended for cutting and removal of soft tissue in gynecological procedures involving endoscopic hysterectomy in adult women.
