Indications for Use

The UNIDRIVE S III system is intended for intrauterine use by trained gynecologists to hysteroscopically resect and remove tissue. The HOPKINS Telescope when used with the obturator and sheath is intended to permit viewing of the cervical canal and uterine cavity for the purpose of performing diagnostic and surgical procedures.

Device Story

The UNIDRIVE SIII System is a motorized surgical device for hysteroscopic tissue resection. It consists of a motor control unit, DrillCut-X II Shaver handpiece, shaver blades, HOPKINS Telescope, obturator, and operating sheath. The control unit automatically detects the handpiece and sets parameters; the surgeon presets maximum speed via buttons. Shaver blades are inserted into the telescope working channel and activated by a one-pedal footswitch. The inner blade sheath oscillates within the outer sheath to resect tissue. The obturator facilitates telescope insertion; the sheath provides an outflow channel for fluid exchange. Used in clinical settings by gynecologists, the device provides real-time visualization and mechanical tissue removal, aiding in diagnostic and surgical intrauterine procedures. The system benefits patients by enabling minimally invasive access and efficient tissue resection.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data was required. Substantial equivalence was established through non-clinical bench testing, including cutting performance comparisons and optical performance validation against the predicate device.

Technological Characteristics

Motorized surgical system; components include HOPKINS Telescope, obturator, operating sheath, and shaver blades. Materials tested for biocompatibility per ISO 10993 (cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation, acute systemic toxicity, pyrogenicity). Thermal safety per IEC 60601-2-18. Reprocessing validated per AAMI TIR12/30/39, ANSI/AAMI ST79, and ISO 17664/17655. Sterilization per ISO 11137. Connectivity: motor control unit with automatic handpiece detection. Form factor: endoscopic system with mechanical oscillation for tissue resection.

Indications for Use

Indicated for intrauterine tissue resection and removal, and visualization of the cervical canal and uterine cavity for diagnostic and surgical procedures in patients requiring hysteroscopy. Intended for use by trained gynecologists.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hysteroscope is a device used to permit direct viewing of the cervical canal and the uterine cavity by a telescopic system introduced into the uterus through the cervix. It is used to perform diagnostic and surgical procedures other than sterilization. This generic type of device may include obturators and sheaths, instruments used through an operating channel, scope preheaters, light sources and cables, and component parts.

This submission adds the following new system components to the UNIDRIVE SIII System previously cleared in K223520: • HOPKINS Telescope 0° (26205AMA) • Obturator (26205OC) • Operating Sheath (26205CD) • Shaver Blades (26205SA, 26205SB) • Shaver Blades (091133-01/-10, 091134-01/-10) The UNIDRIVE S III system has a motor control unit and can be used with the DrillCut-X II Shaver handpiece GYN which houses the subject shaver blades. The DrillCut-X II Shaver handpiece GYN is connected to the motor connection socket of the control unit. The UNIDRIVE S III system control unit detects the handpiece automatically and loads the standard parameters. The control unit displays the available speed range on the screen, and the maximum speed can be preset using the +/- buttons. The shaver blade upon being connected to the DrillCut-X II Shaver handpiece GYN is inserted into the working channel of the compatible HOPKINS Telescope. The shaver blades are activated via a one-pedal footswitch that is connected to the UNIDRIVE SIII control unit. The shaver blades consist of two sheaths that fit into each other. The inner sheath oscillates within the outer sheath to enable tissue resection. The obturator is used to create access and facilitate insertion of the HOPKINS Telescope. The sheath is used optionally to provide an outflow channel if instruments other than the shaver blades are used to facilitate exchange of fluids. There are no changes to the system components of the UNIDRIVE SIII System cleared in K223520 with the exception of the DrillCut-X II Shaver handpiece GYN (26702050) that has updated manual cleaning instructions and sterilization dry time has been reduced from 60 minutes to 20 minutes. | | --- | --- | | Indications for Use: | The UNIDRIVE S III system is intended for intrauterine use by trained gynecologists to hysteroscopically resect and remove tissue. The HOPKINS Telescope when used with the obturator and sheath is intended to permit viewing of the cervical canal and uterine cavity for the purpose of performing diagnostic and surgical procedures. | 2 {6} STORZ KARL STORZ—ENDOSKOPE KARL STORZ Premarket Notification UNIDIRVE SIII System 510(k) Summary K254425 Page 3 of 4 | Technological Characteristics. | The subject and predicate devices are identical in their intended use and operating principle.
