Indications for Use

The Extroducer® Infusion Catheter System is intended for infusion of diagnostic or therapeutic solutions into the extravascular area of the peripheral vasculature or intraluminally. The Extroducer® Infusion Catheter System is not intended for use in the coronary or neurovasculature.

Device Story

Minimally invasive infusion catheter system for adult peripheral vasculature; used in hospital operating theaters and catheterization labs by trained healthcare professionals. Device consists of an infusion needle and an outer protective sheath. During use, device is fed through a pre-positioned guide catheter; needle is advanced out of the sheath to penetrate the vessel wall for extravascular delivery or used intraluminally. Radiopaque markers on both needle and sheath aid in positioning. Manual deployment by physician. Benefits include targeted delivery of diagnostic or therapeutic solutions to extravascular areas or organs. Duration of use is approximately 1 hour.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data was required for this submission. Safety and effectiveness were established through extensive non-clinical bench testing, including dimensional verification, mechanical testing (tensile, torque, flexibility, kinking, burst pressure), functional testing (flow rate, force, leakage), and biocompatibility testing (cytotoxicity, sensitization, reactivity, systemic toxicity, hemocompatibility).

Technological Characteristics

Materials: PTFE, Pebax, Nitinol, Platinum iridium, Epoxy glue. Sensing/Actuation: Manual deployment; radiopaque markers for visualization. Energy: None (mechanical). Dimensions: 33G needle; 0.53mm sheath OD; 161cm/142cm sheath lengths. Connectivity: None. Sterilization: Ethylene oxide. Software: None.

Indications for Use

Indicated for adult patients requiring administration of diagnostic or therapeutic solutions into the extravascular space of the peripheral vasculature or intraluminally. Contraindicated for use in coronary or neurovasculature.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A continuous flush catheter is an attachment to a catheter-transducer system that permits continuous intravascular flushing at a slow infusion rate for the purpose of eliminating clotting, back-leakage, and waveform damping.

The device is sterile and designed for single patient use and is intended for use in hospital operating theatres and catheterization laboratories under normal clinical conditions, by healthcare professionals trained in relevant medical procedures. The duration of use is approximately 1 hour. The device has two main components: an Infusion Needle used to penetrate the vessel wall that allows for infusion of diagnostic or therapeutic solutions, and an Outer Protective Sheath which enables flushing and protects the Infusion Needle tip during positioning and/or repositioning. Page 1 of 5 {5} SmartWise Traditional 510(k) Premarket submission The package also includes the following accessories, which are optional to use: - A 0.25 mL syringe with a male Luer lock - A dispensing tip to aid in the flush of the outer protective sheath Additional accessories, not covered by this submission, includes: - Guide catheters with a minimum ID of 0.022" - Additional syringes 0.25-1.0 mL, male Luer lock (one syringe included in package) During use, the device (the Infusion Needle positioned within the Outer Protective Sheath) is fed through a guide catheter already pre-positioned within the patient's vasculature. At the site of treatment, the device exits the guide catheter directly into the blood vessel. The most distal part of the device's Infusion Needle is then advanced out of the Outer Protective Sheath and pushed through the vessel wall into the perivascular or extravascular area. Additionally, the device can deliver solutions intraluminally, without exiting the blood vessel. ### 2.1 Models The Extroducer® Infusion Catheter system is available in six models, see Table 1, The device exists in two lengths, and each length has a radiopaque marker band positioned at different lengths from the infusion needle distal tip: 5mm, 10mm and 15mm. Aside from the overall device length and position of the radiopaque marker band, the models are identical.
