## Device Story

Stitch - Suture Wires and Tapes are nonabsorbable surgical sutures and tapes used for soft tissue approximation and ligation during surgery. The device consists of UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) sutures and AISI300 series stainless steel needles. It is provided in various diameters and sizes (USP 3-0 to 5; tapes 1.3mm to 2.0mm) to accommodate different patient anatomies. The device is intended for single use and is supplied sterile via ethylene oxide. Surgeons use the sutures to hold soft tissues together until healing occurs. The device provides mechanical support for tissue union, benefiting patients by facilitating surgical repair and wound closure.

## Clinical Evidence

No clinical data were included in this submission. Performance was demonstrated through bench testing according to USP standards (Diameter <861>, Needle Attachment <871>, Tensile Strength <881>) and biological evaluation per ISO 10993-1:2018.

## Technological Characteristics

Materials: UHMWPE suture, AISI300 stainless steel needles (ASTM F899). Design: Braided nonabsorbable suture. Sizes: USP 3-0, 2-0, 0, 1, 2, 5; tapes 1.3mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm. Sterilization: Ethylene oxide (ISO 11135, SAL 10⁻⁶). Colorants: Chromium-cobalt-aluminum oxide (<2%) and D&C Black (<1%).

## Regulatory Identification

Nonabsorbable poly(ethylene terephthalate) surgical suture is a multifilament, nonabsorbable, sterile, flexible thread prepared from fibers of high molecular weight, long-chain, linear polyesters having recurrent aromatic rings as an integral component and is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation. The poly(ethylene terephthalate) surgical suture meets U.S.P. requirements as described in the U.S.P. Monograph for Nonabsorbable Surgical Sutures; it may be provided uncoated or coated; and it may be undyed or dyed with an appropriate FDA listed color additive. Also, the suture may be provided with or without a standard needle attached.

We have reviewed your section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. # IV. Device Description:

The purpose of this submission is to obtain marketing clearance for Stitch - Suture Wires and Tapes. Stitch - Suture Wires and Tapes are used in surgeries for approximations and for union of soft tissues until healing occurs. The surgical sutures and tapes are made of UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene), and the needles are made in AISI300 steel series, according to the standard ASTM F899. They are found in a variety of diameters to meet the range of anatomies of the patients; it is provided in sterile condition sterilized by Ethylene Oxide. The sutures are classified as non-absorbable and meet the USP standards. This product is for single use only. This device comes in sizes USP 3-0, 2-0, 0, 1, 2 and 5 and suture tape sizes 1.3mm, 1.6mm and 2.0mm.

The color additives used are accepted by FDA, according to the guidance “Summary of Color Additives for Use in the United States in Foods, Drugs, Cosmetics, and Medical Devices”; Color Additives Approved for Use in Medical Devices, as follows:

- Chromium-cobalt-aluminum oxide (CFR §73.1015) for the blue color in concentration lower than 2% by weight of the suture material.
- D&C Black (CFR §74.3054) for the black color in concentration lower than 1% by weight of the suture material.

The subject and predicate devices have equivalent intended use and equivalent technological characteristics. They are all manufactured from identical materials and share equivalent design characteristics like physical dimensions. Any difference in the technological characteristics do not raise new issues of safety or efficacy. The performance of the subject device was compared with the specific FDA guidance and was demonstrated through mechanical testing according to USP standards and comparison side-by-side with the predicate. No clinical data were included in this submission. The subject device is provided sterile by Ethylene Oxide method. The sterilization process, parameters, validation and shelf life is the same as the reference device cleared under the 510(k) K243905 and K200332.

### VII. Performance Data:

The non-clinical tests performed and the Recognized Consensus Standards to which the SStitch - Suture Wires and Tapes have been tested are specifically the following:

- Sutures - Diameter <861>

Materials used were evaluated per ISO 10993-1:2018 – Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices. The subject device components are provided sterile. The sterilization method is ethylene oxide exposure. The EO sterilization has been validated to a sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶, according to ISO 11135 Sterilization of health care products - Ethylene oxide - Requirements for the development, validation, and routine control of a sterilization process for medical devices. The shelf life is the same as the reference device cleared, and they share equivalent characteristics ensuring that no new worst-case scenario for shelf-life and sterilization is identified. The medical device in its final finished form is identical to Stitch Cerclage - Suture Tapes (K243905) (previously marketed device) in formulation, processing, design, sterilization, and no other chemicals have been added (e.g., plasticizers, fillers, additives, additives, additives, cleaning agents, mold release agents).

### VIII. Conclusions:

As was established in this submission, the subject Stitch - Suture Wires and Tapes are substantially equivalent to the predicate devices cleared by the FDA for commercial distribution in the United States. The subject device was shown to be substantially equivalent and have the same technological characteristics, intended use, indications for use, material composition, anatomical region, multiple sizes, and basic design features compared to its predicate devices. Any differences between the subject and the predicate devices are considered minor and do not raise different questions of safety or effectiveness.
