System comprises 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and specialized lens case with neutralizer catalyst disk; used for cleaning, protein removal, disinfection, and storage of contact lenses. Patient places lenses in holder; adds solution to cup; neutralizer disk converts hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen over 6 hours. Used by patients at home. ## Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Biocompatibility testing (ISO 10993-5, -23, -11) confirmed lens case components are non-cytotoxic, non-ocular irritating, and non-systemically toxic. Neutralization profile testing confirmed residual hydrogen peroxide levels are comparable to the predicate. Disinfecting efficacy testing demonstrated effective reduction of microorganisms to ISO levels at 1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6 hours.

## Technological Characteristics

Aqueous solution: 3% hydrogen peroxide, phosphonic acid stabilizer, citric acid, PEG, NaCl, NaOH, phosphate buffer. Lens case: transparent cup, holder-cap assembly with neutralizer catalyst disk. We have reviewed your section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution system consists of: MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution and the special lens case. The lens case consists of a transparent cup and a lens holder-lens case cap assembly with a neutralizer catalyst disk. ### VII. PERFORMANCE DATA

~ Non-Clinical Studies ~

A series of studies were completed to demonstrate the substantial equivalence of the MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution to the predicate device. Lens compatibility, cleaning efficacy, and biocompatibility studies on the solution and neutralization disc were addressed in K191872 and are applicable to the subject device.

Results of non-clinical testing on the modified device are summarized below:

#### Biocompatibility

Biocompatibility testing on the lens case cup, cap, and lens holders for MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution was conducted in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Testing was done per applicable ISO standards (cytotoxicity (ISO 10993-5), acute ocular irritation (ISO 10993-23), and acute systemic toxicity (ISO 10993-11)). The results confirm the extracts from the lens case components are non-cytotoxic, non-ocular irritating, and do not show acute systemic toxicity.

# Neutralization Profile

Tests were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the neutralization lens case of the MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution in terms of residual hydrogen peroxide level. The MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution showed a similar neutralization profile to the predicate device.

# Disinfecting and Preservative Efficacy

Disinfecting efficacy test was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution as a contact lens disinfection product. Results demonstrated that harmful microorganisms were effectively reduced to an ISO level at 1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6 hours after neutralization.

Clinical studies were unnecessary for this application.

# VIII. CONCLUSIONS

# Substantial Equivalence

Based on the results of the testing presented in this Premarket Notification, MeniSept 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution is as safe and effective as the predicate device when used in accordance with the labeled directions for use and for the proposed indication.
