Device Story

UniPearls® Embolic Microspheres are non-biodegradable hydrogel microspheres used for vascular embolization. Supplied in prefilled syringes suspended in physiological saline; available in seven sizes (70μm–1000μm) and two colors (colorless, blue). Intended for single use; delivered via catheter to target vessels to promote embolization of hypervascularized tumors and peripheral arteriovenous malformations. Operated by clinicians in a clinical setting. Device acts as a mechanical embolic agent; physical presence in the vasculature blocks blood flow to the target site. Benefits include targeted vessel occlusion for tumor management or malformation treatment.

Identification

A vascular embolization device is an intravascular implant intended to control hemorrhaging due to aneurysms, certain types of tumors (e.g., nephroma, hepatoma, uterine fibroids), and arteriovenous malformations. This does not include cyanoacrylates and other embolic agents, which act by polymerization or precipitation. Embolization devices used in neurovascular applications are also not included in this classification, see § 882.5950 of this chapter.

There is a difference in primary package between the two when they are delivered as sterile. The sterile package of the subject devichas been verified to be safe and effective. 2. The shelf life of the subject device is longer than that of the predicate device, which is determined based on the accelerated aging test. 3. The volume is different, Two volume types are newly added for the subject device compared with the predicate device.
