Device Story
Barbed PDO Suture is an absorbable, sterile, monofilament surgical suture made of polydioxanone (PDO). It features spiral bidirectional barbs along its length, allowing for tissue approximation and fixation without surgical knots. The device is supplied pre-loaded in a cannula. During midface suspension surgery, a physician places the suture in the subcutaneous plane. The barbs engage the surrounding soft tissue, anchoring and maintaining the cheek adipose layer in an elevated, repositioned state. This mechanical fixation provides temporary support to facial soft tissue. The device is intended for use in a clinical setting by trained healthcare providers. The cannula-based delivery method is designed to facilitate accurate placement while potentially reducing the risk of vascular or nerve injury compared to traditional needle-based techniques.
Clinical Evidence
Prospective, multi-center clinical study conducted at four U.S. sites with 57 enrolled subjects (48 completed). Evaluated safety and effectiveness for midface suspension surgery. Results showed a safety profile consistent with suture-based procedures; no serious adverse events or unanticipated adverse device effects reported. Most adverse events were mild and resolved without sequelae. Bench testing included USP <861> (diameter), USP <881> (tensile strength), sterility, endotoxin testing, shelf-life stability, and barb pull-out strength testing.

It may be coated or uncoated, undyed or dyed, and with or without a standard needle attached.

We have reviewed your section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. ## Non-Clinical and/or Clinical Tests Summary & Conclusions
In accordance with the Class II Special Controls Guidance: Surgical Sutures; Guidance for Industry and FDA (June 2003), the Barbed PDO Suture was evaluated through nonclinical testing and supporting information to demonstrate safety and performance. These evaluations included conformity to applicable USP standards (USP <861> Suture Diameter and USP <881> Tensile Strength), sterility and bacterial endotoxin testing, shelf life supported by stability testing, biocompatibility assessment, and performance testing, including barb holding strength (pull-out testing).
A prospective, multi-center clinical study was conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Barbed PDO Suture for midface suspension surgery. A total of 57 subjects were enrolled across four U.S. sites, with 48 subjects completing the study. The safety profile observed in the clinical study was consistent with that expected for suture-based procedures. No serious adverse events or unanticipated adverse device effects were reported. Most adverse events were mild in severity and resolved without sequelae.
Based on the totality of nonclinical and clinical evidence, the Barbed PDO Suture is safe and effective for its intended use and performs as well as the identified legally marketed predicate device.

1. Search: exact and fuzzy
Type a phrase like "coronary artery calcification" into the search box. You get two kinds of results. Exact results match the literal phrase — prefix searches work ("coronary artery calcificati") but suffix searches do not. Fuzzy results match on the meaning and intent of your phrase rather than the exact words, and are sorted by relevance score. Hover over the Exact or Fuzzy badge on any row to see exactly why it matched.

3. Judging fuzzy relevance
Fuzzy results trail off in relevance as you scroll. Use three signals to decide how far down to go: the fuzzy badge explanations, the intended use column, and whether your target output (e.g., Cobb angle) still appears in the AI Performance sub-table. Once it stops appearing, you're past the relevant zone. A top hit with a low score (~0.4) and a stretched explanation is a hint the closest predicates are far away — the project may be headed for De Novo. Note the fuzzy search is a pattern match: it doesn't handle negation ("not") well, and hardware devices can appear — filter by SaMD/AI ML to cut them.

5. Side-by-side comparison

7. Product codes and the regulations tree
Click a product code in the results to jump to it in the regulations tree — identification text, sibling product codes, and devices you can open in a PDF viewer on the right. Always read the special controls if any exist for your device — it broadens your search and sharpens pre-kickoff research.

8. Chart view

9. The predicate graph

Embeddings beat product codes for grouping: two devices can carry different product codes (LLZ vs. QIH) yet do the same thing — the embedding captures the meaning of the intended use and device story. This is also exactly how retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) works under the hood, and it makes a great visual on client calls.
