Indications for Use

SMARTDent is intended for use as a software solution for managing dental diagnostic images and providing tools to support diagnosis.

Device Story

SMARTDent is a dental diagnostic image management and processing software. It ingests images from intraoral systems, extraoral systems, intraoral digital video capture devices, and intraoral scanners. The software provides tools for viewing (2D/3D, FMS, MPR, cross-section, panoramic, implant, TMJ), image manipulation (brightness, contrast, gamma, sharpen, inverse), and measurement (line, multi-line, angle, Cobb's angle). It also supports nerve and implant simulation. Used in dental clinics by healthcare professionals (generalists, specialists, dental operator aides) to support clinical diagnosis and treatment planning. The software runs on Windows 11 workstations. By providing enhanced visualization and measurement tools, it assists clinicians in evaluating dental anatomy and pathology, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Software, hardware, and integration verification and validation were performed per FDA guidance, including validation of risk management mitigations.

Technological Characteristics

Software-based medical image management and processing system. Operates on Windows 11. Supports DICOM, JPEG, PNG, STL, and PLY formats. Features include 2D/3D image viewing, MPR, cross-section, panoramic, implant, and TMJ views. Measurement tools include line, multi-line, angle, and Cobb's angle. Connectivity via standard PC hardware interfaces. No specific algorithm class (e.g., ML/DL) is described; functionality is based on standard image processing and measurement tools.

Indications for Use

Indicated for use as a software solution for managing dental diagnostic images and supporting diagnosis in patients over 5 years old who are candidates for X-ray diagnostic radiation exposure. No restrictions regarding ethnic group, sex, weight, or health condition.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A medical image management and processing system is a device that provides one or more capabilities relating to the review and digital processing of medical images for the purposes of interpretation by a trained practitioner of disease detection, diagnosis, or patient management. The software components may provide advanced or complex image processing functions for image manipulation, enhancement, or quantification that are intended for use in the interpretation and analysis of medical images. Advanced image manipulation functions may include image segmentation, multimodality image registration, or 3D visualization. Complex quantitative functions may include semi-automated measurements or time-series measurements.

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls; voluntary standards—Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Std., Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) Std., Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Test Pattern).
