Device Story
System comprises CarboClear Fenestrated Pedicle Screws and High V+ Bone Cement; used for spinal stabilization in patients with advanced tumors. Screws are cannulated, polyaxial, made of carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK with titanium shell and tantalum marker; feature lateral fenestrations at distal tip. Bone cement is self-curing, radiopaque PMMA; supplied as powder (PMMA, barium sulfate, hydroxyapatite, benzoyl peroxide) and liquid (methylmethacrylate monomer, N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine, hydroquinone). Components mixed to form paste; injected through fenestrated screws into vertebral body to augment fixation. Used by surgeons in clinical settings. Output is mechanical stabilization of spinal column. Benefits include restored structural integrity in palliative oncology patients.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Mechanical testing included axial pullout strength (ASTM F2193, ASTM F543), insertion/removal torque, and static bending/torsion tests. Compatibility and performance testing characterized cement flow and bolus formation.

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. #### System Description
The CarboClear Fenestrated Pedicle Screws are cannulated polyaxial pedicle screws in various dimensions, with lateral fenestrations near screws' distal tip, which allow controlled delivery of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement (High V+ Bone Cement) into the vertebral body. The CarboClear Fenestrated Screws are implanted with components of the CarboClear Pedicle Screw System.
The CarboClear Fenestrated Screws are made of carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK). The threaded portion of the screws is encased within a thin titanium shell, and includes a small tantalum marker.
The CarboClear Fenestrated Screws are supplied sterile, and are intended for single use.

The High V+ Bone Cement is a self-curing, high viscosity, radiopaque PMMA based bone cement. It is provided sterile in two components: 20 grams of powder and 8.6 grams of liquid. The powder component consists of polymethylmethacrylate, with barium sulfate and hydroxyapatite as radiopacifier, and benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The liquid component comprises methylmethacrylate monomer, with N.Ndimethyl-p-toluidine as a promoter, and hydroquinone as a stabilizer. The powder and liquid components are mixed into homogenous paste, to initiate the polymerization reaction.

1. Search: exact and fuzzy
Type a phrase like "coronary artery calcification" into the search box. You get two kinds of results. Exact results match the literal phrase — prefix searches work ("coronary artery calcificati") but suffix searches do not. Fuzzy results match on the meaning and intent of your phrase rather than the exact words, and are sorted by relevance score. Hover over the Exact or Fuzzy badge on any row to see exactly why it matched.

3. Judging fuzzy relevance
Fuzzy results trail off in relevance as you scroll. Use three signals to decide how far down to go: the fuzzy badge explanations, the intended use column, and whether your target output (e.g., Cobb angle) still appears in the AI Performance sub-table. Once it stops appearing, you're past the relevant zone. A top hit with a low score (~0.4) and a stretched explanation is a hint the closest predicates are far away — the project may be headed for De Novo. Note the fuzzy search is a pattern match: it doesn't handle negation ("not") well, and hardware devices can appear — filter by SaMD/AI ML to cut them.

8. Chart view

9. The predicate graph

Embeddings beat product codes for grouping: two devices can carry different product codes (LLZ vs. QIH) yet do the same thing — the embedding captures the meaning of the intended use and device story. This is also exactly how retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) works under the hood, and it makes a great visual on client calls.
