## Indications for Use

MP719 is indicated for use as an implant material and for use in the control of bleeding from bone surfaces. The material may be used during surgical procedures and in treating traumatic injuries. MP719 is intended for use under the direction of a healthcare professional.

## Device Story

MP 719 is a sterile, resorbable, non-woven membrane composed of poly-N-acetyl glucosamine fibers derived from microalgae. Used as a bone hemostasis implant material to control bleeding from bone surfaces during surgery or trauma. Applied directly to bleeding bone sites by surgeons; acts as a physical barrier/hemostatic agent. Provides mechanical hemostasis similar to traditional bone wax. Benefits include effective bleeding control and biocompatibility. No complex electronics or software involved.

## Clinical Evidence

No human clinical data. Evidence based on bench testing and animal studies. Bench testing included chemical/physical analysis, 3-year stability, and mechanical hardness/handling comparisons. Animal studies (rabbit femur) evaluated hemostatic efficacy and biocompatibility (cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation, genotoxicity, systemic toxicity, and implantation response). Results showed MP 719 is non-reactive, non-hemolytic, and equivalent to predicate bone wax in hemostatic performance and handling.

## Technological Characteristics

Material: Poly-N-acetyl glucosamine fibers derived from microalgae. Form: Sterile, resorbable, non-woven membrane. Dimensions: 4cm x 4cm to 10cm x 10cm. Principle: Mechanical hemostasis via physical barrier. Sterilization: Not specified. Connectivity: None. Software: None.

Dear Mr. Finklesztein:

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration. Iisting of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading.

If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to additional controls. Existing major regulations affecting your device can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Parts 800 to 898.
