Indications for Use

The Manta Ray™ ACP System is an anterior cervical plate that is intended for temporary stabilization of the cervical spine from C2-C7 due to the following indications: Degenerative Disc Disease (defined as back pain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies), Spondylolisthesis, Trauma (i.e. fracture/dislocation), Tumor, Spinal stenosis, Deformity (i.e. scoliosis, kyphosis and/or lordosis), Pseudoarthrosis, Failed previous fusion

Device Story

Manta Ray™ ACP System is an anterior cervical plate fixation system used for temporary stabilization of the cervical spine (C2-C7). The system comprises titanium alloy plates with lordotic and transverse curvature for anatomic fit, and screws available in fixed or variable angle styles to create rigid or semi-rigid constructs. Used by surgeons in clinical settings to address pathologies including degenerative disc disease, trauma, and deformity. The device provides mechanical support to the spine to facilitate fusion. Clinical benefit is derived from stabilization of the spinal segments.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Static and fatigue testing were performed to characterize the stiffness, strength, and fatigue life of the system.

Technological Characteristics

Implant grade titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) per ASTM F136. System includes plates with lordotic/transverse curvature and fixed/variable angle screws. Mechanical fixation device.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring temporary stabilization of the cervical spine (C2-C7) due to degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, trauma (fracture/dislocation), tumor, spinal stenosis, deformity (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis), pseudoarthrosis, or failed previous fusion.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A spinal intervertebral body fixation orthosis is a device intended to be implanted made of titanium. It consists of various vertebral plates that are punched into each of a series of vertebral bodies. An eye-type screw is inserted in a hole in the center of each of the plates. A braided cable is threaded through each eye-type screw. The cable is tightened with a tension device and it is fastened or crimped at each eye-type screw. The device is used to apply force to a series of vertebrae to correct “sway back,” scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine), or other conditions.
