Indications for Use

The LTC VAD.400 is an electrosurgical generator coupled with designated LTC electrosurgical instruments for bipolar tissue fusion. The LTC VAD.400 electrosurgical generator and designated LTC electrosurgical instruments (i.e., "the VAD System") are intended for use in open general surgical procedures where ligation of vessels and ducts is desired and as an alternative to mechanical clamping (clips or staples) or suturing. The LTC VAD System can be used on vessels up to 7mm in diameter, on ducts up to 2mm in diameter, and tissue bundles as large as will fit in the jaw electrodes of the instrument. The LTC VAD system has not yet been tested for use in tubal sterilization or tubal coagulation for sterilization procedures; therefore, the company does not recommend the use of the LTC VAD system for such procedures. In addition, LTC recommends against the use of the VAD System for male circumcisions.

Device Story

LTC VAD System comprises bipolar electrosurgical generator and dedicated electrosurgical instruments; used in open general surgery for tissue fusion/ligation. Device replaces mechanical clamps, staples, or sutures. Surgeon operates instrument to grasp tissue bundles, vessels, or ducts within jaw electrodes; generator delivers bipolar energy to achieve hemostasis/fusion. Output is thermal energy for tissue sealing. Benefits include reduced reliance on mechanical fasteners. Used in clinical/OR settings by surgeons.

Clinical Evidence

Bench, animal, and clinical testing conducted. Device functioned as intended with all results meeting expectations.

Technological Characteristics

System consists of a bipolar electrosurgical generator and two dedicated electrosurgical instruments. Operates via bipolar electrosurgical energy for tissue fusion.

Indications for Use

Indicated for open general surgical procedures requiring ligation of vessels up to 7mm, ducts up to 2mm, and tissue bundles. Contraindicated for tubal sterilization, tubal coagulation, and male circumcisions.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An electrosurgical cutting and coagulation device and accessories is a device intended to remove tissue and control bleeding by use of high-frequency electrical current.
