Indications for Use

The Y2K2 Enteral In-Line Filter is intended for use to filter liquid feeding solutions prior to delivery into a patient's pre-inserted feeding tube, to minimize the risk of tube occusion by macro particulates. This will be applicable to any size or length pediatric or adult feeding tube (e.g., nasogastric, nasoduodenal, nasojejunal, gastrostomy, jejunostomy, transgastric duodenal, or transgastic jejunal).

Device Story

Y2K2 Enteral In-Line Filter is an in-line fluid filter for enteral feeding systems. Device connects to feeding tube lines to filter liquid nutrition before delivery to patient. Primary function is removal of macro particulates to prevent tube occlusion. Device utilizes inert biomaterials similar to predicate filters. Used in clinical or home settings where enteral feeding is administered. Healthcare providers or caregivers install the filter in-line; output is filtered nutritional fluid. Benefit is reduced risk of feeding tube blockage, ensuring consistent nutrient delivery.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

In-line fluid filter; inert biomaterials; larger pore size compared to predicate filters for coarse particulate removal; standalone device; non-powered.

Indications for Use

Indicated for pediatric and adult patients requiring enteral feeding via any size or length feeding tube (e.g., nasogastric, nasoduodenal, nasojejunal, gastrostomy, jejunostomy) to prevent tube occlusion from macro particulates.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A gastrointestinal tube and accessories is a device that consists of flexible or semi-rigid tubing used for instilling fluids into, withdrawing fluids from, splinting, or suppressing bleeding of the alimentary tract. This device may incorporate an integral inflatable balloon for retention or hemostasis. This generic type of device includes the hemostatic bag, irrigation and aspiration catheter (gastric, colonic, etc.), rectal catheter, sterile infant gavage set, gastrointestinal string and tubes to locate internal bleeding, double lumen tube for intestinal decompression or intubation, feeding tube, gastroenterostomy tube, Levine tube, nasogastric tube, single lumen tube with mercury weight balloon for intestinal intubation or decompression, and gastro-urological irrigation tray (for gastrological use).

Special Controls

*Classification.* (1) Class II (special controls). The barium enema retention catheter and tip with or without a bag that is a gastrointestinal tube and accessory or a gastronomy tube holder accessory is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 876.9.(2) Class I (general controls) for the dissolvable nasogastric feed tube guide for the nasogastric tube. The class I device is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to § 876.9.
