Indications for Use

When used with other components this device stabilizes open and/or unstable fractures of long bones including intracapsular, intertrochanteric, supracondylar, or condylar. It is also used for joint fusions and limb lengthening of deformity corrections which involve cutting the bone.

Device Story

External fixation ring component; part of rigid construct for long bone fracture stabilization, joint fusion, or limb lengthening. Device consists of two beryllium-aluminum alloy rings encased in injection-molded polycarbonate plastic. Used in clinical settings by surgeons; attaches to pin/wire clamps and distractors to form fixation frame. Provides mechanical support for bone alignment and stabilization. Benefits patient by facilitating bone healing and deformity correction.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Mechanical testing demonstrated that the device has load-carrying capabilities similar to solid rings made of aluminum alloy.

Technological Characteristics

Beryllium-aluminum alloy rings encased in injection-molded polycarbonate plastic. Mechanical fixation component. Dimensions/form factor: ring. Sterilization: not specified. Connectivity: none. Software: none.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring stabilization of open/unstable long bone fractures (intracapsular, intertrochanteric, supracondylar, condylar), joint fusions, or limb lengthening/deformity correction involving osteotomy.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
