Indications for Use

The MicroScan® Dried Gram-Positive MIC/Combo Panel is used to determine quantitative and/or qualitative antimicrobial agent susceptibility of colonies grown on solid media of rapidly growing aerobic and facultative Gram-Positive cocci. After inoculation, panels are incubated for 16 - 20 hours at 35°C +/- 1°C in a non-CO2 incubator, and read either visually or with MicroScan instrumentation, according to the Package Insert.

Device Story

MicroScan® Dried Gram-Positive MIC/Combo Panels are miniaturized broth dilution susceptibility tests. Device takes colonies grown on solid media as input; inoculates into panels containing various antimicrobial agents at concentrations bridging clinical interest. Panels incubated 16-20 hours at 35°C in non-CO2 environment. Output is lowest antimicrobial concentration showing growth inhibition. Read visually or via MicroScan instrumentation. Used in clinical laboratories by technicians to determine antibiotic susceptibility; results guide physician antimicrobial therapy selection. This submission specifically updates the Quality Control range for Penicillin.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance compared against NCCLS frozen reference methods to support the revised Quality Control range for Penicillin (≥ 0.25 mcg/ml for S. aureus ATCC 29213).

Indications for Use
