Indications for Use

The Inverness Medical™ Early Pregnancy Test is intended for use by lay consumers for the qualitative detection of hCG in urine as an aid in the detection of early pregnancy.

Device Story

Inverness Medical™ Early Pregnancy Test is an over-the-counter diagnostic device for home use. It utilizes a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay to detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine samples. The device consists of a test strip housed in a plastic casing. The user applies urine to the device; monoclonal antibodies on the strip bind to hCG if present, producing a qualitative visual result. The device provides a simple, rapid method for consumers to determine pregnancy status at home. It is a modified version of a previously cleared predicate, featuring changes to strip width and specimen sample size, with corresponding housing adjustments.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing and field evaluations were conducted. Laboratory studies assessed repeatability, sensitivity, and interferences. Field evaluations were performed to determine professional and consumer accuracy. Results demonstrated that the device met all acceptance criteria based on the predicate device specifications.

Technological Characteristics

Immunochromatographic assay using monoclonal antibodies. Device consists of a test strip and plastic housing. Dimensions modified from predicate to accommodate narrower strip design and specific sample size. No electronic components or software.

Indications for Use

Indicated for lay consumers for qualitative detection of hCG in urine to aid in early pregnancy detection.
