Indications for Use

The Sensititre Haemophilus/Streptococcus pneumoniae (HP) MIC Susceptibility plate is an in vitro diagnostic product for the susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. This 510(k) is for the addition of Vancomycin in the dilution range of 0.06 - 4 ug/ml to the Sensititre Haemophilus/Streptococcus pneumoniae MIC panel for testing Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae isolates. The indications for use for Vancomycin is for: Streptococcus pneumoniae (including penicillin-resistant strains).

Device Story

Sensititre HP MIC Susceptibility Plates are in vitro diagnostic devices used in clinical laboratories to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of antimicrobial agents against specific bacteria. This submission adds Vancomycin to existing MIC panels. The device consists of microtiter plates containing dehydrated antimicrobial agents. Clinical samples (bacterial isolates) are inoculated into the wells; the device measures bacterial growth inhibition to determine susceptibility. Results assist clinicians in selecting appropriate antibiotic therapy for patients infected with Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae. The device is intended for professional use in clinical laboratory settings.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided. Substantial equivalence is based on bench testing of the antimicrobial susceptibility test performance.

Technological Characteristics

Microtiter plate format containing dehydrated antimicrobial agents (Vancomycin). Principle of operation is the microbroth dilution method for determining MIC. Designed for in vitro diagnostic use.

Indications for Use

Indicated for in vitro susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae (including penicillin-resistant strains) and Haemophilus influenzae isolates using Vancomycin in the dilution range of 0.06 - 4 ug/ml.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An antimicrobial susceptibility test powder is a device that consists of an antimicrobial drug powder packaged in vials in specified amounts and intended for use in clinical laboratories for determining in vitro susceptibility of bacterial pathogens to these therapeutic agents. Test results are used to determine the antimicrobial agent of choice in the treatment of bacterial diseases.
